Susan VandePol is an author and speaker, and created the Families of the Fallen protocol for fire departments and its congruent protocol, Life After Breath, for churches after the duty related death of her husband to ALS in 2005. The protocol is now being used across the country and is endorsed by experts in the fields of grief, crisis, and suicide prevention. Susan is certified in grief, crisis, and trauma counseling. Her speaking engagements have included women’s retreats and conferences, a keynote at the ICISF World Congress, and addressing the Honor Guard at the IAFF Firefighter Memorial.
